Forest Bathing
The Forest is the Therapist, the Guide Opens the Door ~ Amos Clifford
A Forest Bathing Walk is a deep sensory immersion in nature. It is not a hike or exercise, nor is it a naturalist walk. During the walk your are offered a series of open-ended invitations to be with nature.
The practice comes from Japan called shinrin-yoku, meaning tree bathing. This term comes from the fact that trees and plants cover themselves and give off a chemical called phytoncides to protect themselves from disease and danger. These phytoncides when exposed to our skin and/or inhaled produce NK Cells, natural killer cells that go after cancer and diseases in our body. As well as, bathing in the enviroment in nature and the forest.
I went into the experience a bit confused about what Forest Bathing was all about and asking “what would this experience do for me.” Well, I can tell you first hand that Forest Bathing with Kim was a great experience. The power of nature brought about a heightened awareness of the senses. I left feeling rejuvenated and calm. All of the noise in life and in my head were gone. I was at peace. Do I recommend you try Forest Bathing, you bet I do! What have you got to lose, be adventurous, give yourself the gift of a Forest Bathing journey. You will come away feeling refreshed.
